Never, ever leave a guy in charge of packing a fridge...especially if the only boxes left are small ones, he only has time to make one more trip that day, and has a very limited taste rainbow.
Last week, Tina and I moved. After one full day of me transporting all the boxes, followed by a trio of much-more-muscular pros moving the furniture, I found myself back at our old place to make one more trip before last week's Nor'easter (not to be confused with THIS week's Nor'easter) descended upon us.
Being a man of simple pleasures, I grabbed the ketchup and mustard.
And, being a man...I also grabbed 5 kinds of BBQ sauce!
And here's where the lesson come in. How much exciting flavor and spice do YOU put into your life?
While I was fine with my haul, by the second night, Tina began wondering why her meals were falling into the Mucho Blando category.
Apparently the ketchup (which she doesn't even care for) and mustard (let's not even mention the BBQ sauce) weren't quite enough to handle the flavor-burst she desires from things like, well...these!
And why did I have to take pictures?
Because I can't spell half of their names, never mind even trying to pronounce them.
What have I discovered though, by being with my Tina for nearly eleven years?
When we make meals together, which is often, the kitchen smells great.
We laugh (a lot) when I make faces over ingredients whose names sound 'yucky'.
And the best part, my palate has grown to enjoy the flavors that she has brought to my life!
There is nothing wrong with ketchup, mustard and 5 kinds of BBQ sauce.
If your life is this simple, and you're happy with this simple 'bachelor fridge' of flavors...rock on!
But, if you'd like to taste more of what life has to offer, get out there and meet people with whom you can share exciting experiences, learn a new fun skill or two, or just enjoy life at a more delicious level.
I also installed a brand new spice rack for Tina here at the new house...but that's another article entirely.
Life is delicious, if you're willing to taste more of it!
